Who We Are

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to making decent shelter a reality for all families in Rabun County.  Our vision is to enhance the strength, stability, and self-reliance necessary for those in need to build a better life for themselves and their families. Habitat for Humanity of Rabun County seeks to sponsor specific projects starting with the construction of modest but adequate houses and to associate with other groups functioning with purposes consistent with Habitat’s mission.

How We Work

Habitat for Humanity of Rabun County serves to select and support homeowners, organize volunteers, and coordinate house building.  Since, 1989 we have partnered with a broad coalition of individuals, churches, and businesses to build 39 homes in Rabun County for low-income families seeking safe shelter. We seek to empower families by providing economic opportunity, homeownership education, a working partnership, hands-on learning, and the dignity of a hand up, not a handout.

Whom We Serve

We serve low-income families of Rabun County who are currently living in unsafe, dilapidated, or unaffordable housing.  Habitat for Humanity of Rabun County has a selection committee that chooses homeowners based on their level of need, their ability to repay the loan, and their willingness to partner with Habitat to work on their own home and those of others.

The money that Habitat homeowners pay through their monthly mortgage payments goes toward funding other houses. Through affordable mortgage payments and sweat equity, Habitat is better able to sustain its local operations, and homeowners can become invested in their community and take pride in the better future that they have literally built with their own hands.
